Performing trio show
Show: Sunday
The critically acclaimed and award-nominated Danish songwriter, singer and guitarist with a penchant for dark, mythological Americana is ready with his fifth album. ‘Better Times’ consists of 11 trembling, powerful songs written by CS Nielsen and a haunting interpretation of Bob Nolan’s old cowboy classic ‘Cool Water’. The album revolves around time as something we are given, despite the fact that we also inevitably lose it. The songs on ‘Better Times’ grapple with spiritual and existential stones in the shoe. They grope for hope despite hopelessness, community despite loneliness, faith in redemption despite the fear of perdition. The music that embraces the lyrics is simple, varied and melodious.
‘Better Times’ was recorded in CS Nielsen’s living room on Samsø; and like its predecessor ‘Pilgrims’ (2020), the album was produced by Johnny Stage (Sort Sol, Martin Hall, Chris Spedding and others), who also plays electric guitar and twangy electric bass on the record. Michael Lund (De efterladte and others) plays lap-steel and dobro, and Johannes Gissel (Chasing Grace and others) plays drums and keys. In addition, Clara Bryld, the band Salem and Una Skott on choir, Dan Hemmer on organ and George Mihalache on cimbalom.
