A true titan of the Nashville sound, Marcus Hummon is a Grammy winner and 2019 inductee into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His career is a rare tapestry of success, woven from his work as a hit songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and visionary storyteller.
Marcus has etched his name into the bedrock of country music, penning some of the genre’s most enduring anthems. His catalog features iconic staples like Rascal Flatts’ “Bless The Broken Road” (Grammy winner for Best Country Song), The Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away” and “Ready To Run,” and Sara Evans’ “Born To Fly.” While he is a cornerstone of the country charts, his reach extends across genres, with his songs being cut by everyone from R&B and pop icons to Americana torchbearers like Rhiannon Giddens and Jason Isbell.
Beyond the radio dial, Hummon has redefined the intersection of music and theatre. From his critically acclaimed Frederick Douglass musical, American Prophet, to his haunting folk-opera No Man’s Land—which reached a national audience on PBS in late 2024—his work continues to push the boundaries of the American songbook.
Whether releasing his own records on Columbia or scoring award-winning films, Marcus remains one of Music City’s most respected creators. He lives in Nashville with his wife, Rev. Becca Stevens, and their three sons, continuing a family legacy of art and service.
